Donald Dean Hendrickson, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31st at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa, with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Prayer services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Don was born October 27, 1931, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of William and M. Evelyn (McGuire) Hendrickson. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1950. Don served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Stewart in Cotter, Iowa. Don was later married to Ethel Marie (Pepper) Cavin on April 23, 1988.
Don was a farmer and worked at L-W Service Co. for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1994. He previously worked at Thatcher Glass Mfg. in Muscatine, Iowa. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Louisa County Farm Bureau, Moose Lodge 1096 in Iowa City, USS Brinkley Bass Association, and was a former member of the Washington Lions Club. Don enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Hendrickson of Washington, Iowa; son, Michael Wayne Hendrickson and wife Karen of North Liberty, Iowa; son Timothy Lee Hendrickson and wife Tracey of East Strasburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Richard A. Hendrickson of Washington, Iowa; brother, Jack Hendrickson and wife Dona of Grinnell, Iowa; and sister, Ruth A. Galitz and husband Dennis of Columbus Junction, Iowa. He is also survived by step children, Lavonne Van Horn and husband Paul, Loretta Boshart and husband Edward, Mark Cavin and wife Lori, Larry Cavin and wife Deana, Daniel Cavin and wife Julie, Andrew Cavin and wife Ina, step daughter-in-law, Lisa Cavin; 19 step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; one step son, James Cavin; and one step great grandson, Aaron Boshart.
