Donald Dwight Schantz, age 81, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Don was born October 25, 1942, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Dillon D. and Margaret "Peg" (Edmondson) Schantz. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1960. Don was united in marriage to Mary Beason on July 8, 1962, in Muscatine, Iowa.
Don lived most of his life in the Ainsworth Community where he retired as a Union Millwright for Union 2158. He farmed in Louisa County from 1973 until 1985. Don was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church, The Masonic Lodge in Ainsworth and Washington, KAABA Shrine and was active in the Sesame Street Cartooners. He loved hunting, fishing and being around his family and friends. Don enjoyed tinkering with and restoring antique tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Schantz of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Don Schantz of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Chad Schantz of Dubuque, Iowa; and sister Judy (John) Grover of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Schantz; and nephew, John "Zeke" Schantz.
