Donald D. Blankenhorn, age 88, of Washington, died Sunday March 28, 2010 at Halcyon House in Washington following a declining health.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, March 31st at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Don was born on September 9, 1921 in Washington County, Iowa the son of Floyd C. and Eva (Nicholson) Blankenhorn. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1939 and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. Don was united in marriage to Ardice A. Clark on August 4, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri.
He farmed most of his life in Washington County retiring in 1980. Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #26 in Washington. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
Don is survived by his wife, Ardice Blankenhorn of Washington; daughter, Donna Vick and of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jaclyn Messer and husband David of Knoxville, Tennessee; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Douglas B. Blankenhorn; one son -in-law Adison Vick; and one sister and brother-in-law Irene and Allan Barth.
