Donald R. (Jake) Batterson, age 88, of Washington, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday November 30, 2010 at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family will also receive friends following services during a reception at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Jake was born March 15, 1922 in Washington, Iowa the son of Aaron and Alpha (York) Batterson. He attended school in Washington where he graduated from high school. Jake was united in marriage to Alma O'Connor on November 20, 1943 in Washington, Iowa. Jake worked as a tool and dye maker for Washington Manufacturing and later Fansteel. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. Jake enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and cabinets, and going for drives.
Jake is survived by his daughter, Donna Waddell of Jeffersonville, Indiana; daughter, Raberta L. Schafer and husband Russ of Fairfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Dean Batterson and wife Joy of Washington; Sam Batterson and wife Francis of Washington; and Dale (Dude) Batterson of Washington; and one sister-in-law, Anna Batterson of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma in 2002; daughter, Patricia Peiffer in 2003; two brothers, Jim, Elmer (Butch); and one sister Wanda Wilson.
