Donald Franklin "Don" Allender, age 75, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 01, 2017, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dave Watson officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening. Don was born January 2, 1942, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Lyzell "Frosty" and Mary (Shermer) Allender. He attended school in Crawfordsville, Iowa, and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1960. Don was united into marriage with Connie Jean Goodwin on May 29, 1965, at the Washington Christian Tabernacle in Washington, Iowa.
Don lived in Washington his entire married life where he owned and operated Carson Plumbing and Heating from 1972 until his retirement in 2012. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years and served on the Washington City Council for 12 years. Don was a long time member of the Washington County Conservation Board and served as President of the Brinton Trust. He was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church where he served on the Deacon Board. He enjoyed going to morning coffee at the Frontier. Don was an outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing and hunting but he especially enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and his faithful companion, Toby.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Allender of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Angie Egbert and husband Dan of Plano, Iowa; son, Jim Allender and wife Leslie of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren: Jared Reed of Washington, Iowa; Jacquelyn Nelson and husband Curtis of Bend, Oregon; Jacob Reed and wife Britney of Washington, Iowa; Tiffany Allender of Tiffin, Iowa; Tristan Allender of Washington, Iowa; Sam Ackerman of Washington, Iowa; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Reed and Kayden Reed. Don is also survived by his sister, Kathy Morrison and husband John of Letts, Iowa; and brother, Larry Milliman and wife Joyce of Iowa City, Iowa.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Rowe and brother, Maurice Allender.
