"Dolly" Combs, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Moody Colorado officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington at a later date. Ovida Louise Combs was born July 26, 1927 in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of William S. and Eva L. (Womble) Parnell. She attended school in Largo, Florida. Dolly was united in marriage to John B. Combs on April 20, 1946 in Monahans, Texas. To this union were born three children: John W. Combs or rural Washington, Iowa, Jerry N. Combs of rural Kalona, Iowa, and Jane H. (Combs) Adrian of Rural Richland, Iowa.

Dolly was a housewife through her working years, spending her time raising her children and helping on the family farm. After leaving the farm and moving to Washington, she worked part-time as a waitress at the Frontier Café. She was a long-time member of the West Chester United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's group (UMW).

Survivors include her 3 children: John, Jerry and Jane; 4 grandchildren: Christy Combs of Clearwater, Kansas; Jeff Adrian of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Joe Adrian of Richland, Iowa; and Ashley Combs of Washington, Iowa; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lamar (Bunny) Parnell of Cleburne, Texas; and many nephews.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1980; one brother, Horace Parnell; and one sister, Naomi Cosmo.
