Dickie Lee “Dick” Wells, age 80, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the VFW in Riverside, Iowa. Private family interment will take place in the West Chester Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Shriners Children’s Hospital. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Dick was born on September 13, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Bert and Adelea (Jones) Wells. He attended country school through fifth grade and sixth grade in Ainsworth before graduating from Washington High School in 1964. On December 11, 1971, Dick married Julie Sheetz in Washington, Iowa.

Dick was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He was deployed to Vietnam and served with an engineering unit that built bridges. He joined the Iowa National Guard 134th Medical Unit based out of Washington, Iowa, and was deployed to Operation Desert Storm in 1990. He served in the military for 25 years. After returning from Vietnam, he worked several jobs before being employed with Thermogas for 18 years. He was then employed at Wilson Concrete and Iowa Bridge and Culvert to haul large equipment to job sites. Following his retirement, Dick drove trucks for Washington Ag Supply and local area farmers.

Dick was a member of VFW Post 6414 in Riverside, Iowa; the Masonic Lodge in Louisa County; and KAABA Shrine. He enjoyed collecting can tabs to support the Shriners Children’s Hospitals. Dick was also a member of the Washington County Fair Board for 27 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Jade Halvorsen of Centerville, Iowa; grandson, Summit Halvorsen of Centerville, Iowa; brother Jim (Kathy) Wells of Washington, Iowa; nephew, Tim (Joni) Wells; and niece, Tammy (Steve) Porter.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Julie, in 2019.
