Obituary

Diana Elaine Vittetoe, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Halcyon House due to congestive heart failure.

A private graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Elm Grove Cemetery with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Memorials have been established for St. James Catholic Church and the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Diana was born June 26, 1932 in Washington County near Keota to Albert and Anna (Greiner) Sieren. She graduated from Keota High School in 1950 and was married to Edwin J. Vittetoe on August 15, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. They farmed in the Keota-Harper and Ainsworth areas, then on their own farm south of Washington since 1960.

Diana was a devoted farm wife her whole life and a dedicated homemaker and supporter of her husband and children in their many activities. She loved her family with all her heart, cherished the time spent with them and would do anything for them. Diana always put others before herself. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church where she served as a leader of her church circle. She was a longtime 4-H leader and enjoyed volunteering at the Washington County Fair. Diana was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed reading and baking. She participated in neighborhood clubs wherever she lived. Diana was loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Ed Vittetoe of Washington, IA; 3 daughters: Jane (Kent) Dallmeyer of Washington, IA; Nancy (Thomas) Schaeffer of Des Peres, MO; and Marcia (Ted) Reece of Scottsdale, AZ; son, Ron Vittetoe of Washington, IA; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings: Don (Edna) Sieren, James (Connie) Sieren, Dennis Sieren; Rosemary (Leo) Vittetoe and Mary Lou Bower; sisters-in-law, Gail Sieren and Marilyn Sieren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Robert, Gerald and Charles Sieren; and sisters-in-law: Dolores and Kathryn Sieren.

Mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers hold our hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever.
