Demeatris Ann Smith, age 58, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville, Iowa.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Demeatris was born November 13, 1959 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of Frances Jane Brown. She graduated from Carver High and from Kirkwood Community College with a degree in child development. She was united in marriage to Joseph Smith, Sr.

Demeatris worked for WCDC in Washington and taught ESL at Lincoln Elementary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington and enjoyed watching T.V. and spending time with her family. She was an adoptive mother to many children and she loved and was loved by everyone.

She is survived by her children: Quinn Brown of Iowa City, IA; and Aliva Godard (Damien Lewis), Darnetta Godard (Curtis Barry) and Joseph, Jr. (Jackie) Smith, all of Fairfield, IA; 13 grandchildren: Briana, Baarie, Jaiden, Daeonna, Dajanae, Andrea, Danesia, Desire, Damien, Khaliq, Zariah, Kaylee and Xzayvian; partner, Jerome Woods of Iowa City, IA; nieces: Antoinetta, Katarina, Mariah, Daniella and Jalisa and many other nieces and nephews; brother, Orbie (Melissa) Brown of Washington, IA; sister, Aliva "Ruby" Diggs of Chicago, IL; brother, Eddie Whitley of Detroit, MI; brother, Bernard Penelton of Oskaloosa, IA; and brother, Lorenzo (Manika) Smith of Chicago, IL.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Frances Jane Brown and her brother, James Earl.
