Obituary

Delbert Joseph Krotz, age 79, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, October 30, 2015, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Ben Blanchard officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials will be established for Washington Community YMCA and Washington County Pheasants Forever. Delbert was born July 18, 1936, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Alice (Florang) Krotz. Delbert attended school in Ainsworth and graduated from Ainsworth High School. Following high school he served in the United States Army and U.S. Army Reserves, with a tour of duty in Italy. Delbert was united in marriage to LaVaughn Miller on October 5, 1958.

Delbert worked at Northrup King/Syngenta in Washington where he was the Plant Manager for several years. He also sold seed to area farmers for over 50 years. Delbert was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Washington Community YMCA, and Washington County Pheasants Forever and had previously served on the Board of Directors for the Washington Demon Booster Club, YMCA and Pheasants Forever.

Working on a variety of outdoor projects was one of Delbert's favorite activities. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and attending his grandsons' sporting events. His hobbies included: camping, being outdoors, hunting and conservation, going to auctions, rock hounding, and collecting Native American art and artifacts.

He is survived by one son, Phillip Krotz and wife Maurita of Walker, Iowa; two grandsons, Dillon and Sawyer Krotz of Walker, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Ted Griffith of Washington, Iowa.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVaughn in 2010; an infant son, Patrick; and two sisters, Delores Griffith and Darlene Leppert.
