Deborah R. "Deb" Dietz, age 50, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2nd at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the American Cancer Society. Deb was born November 23, 1960 in Trenton, New Jersey the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (McMillan) Gray. She attended school in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School in 1979. On June 28th, 1979, Deb was united in marriage to Doug Dietz at her parent's home in Washington.
Deb lived in Washington, Iowa since she was three years old. She was a Compliance and Coding Specialist at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. During high school, Deb worked at the United Presbyterian Home and later worked at Washington County Long Term Care and the Washington County Hospital. Deb enjoyed being outside working in her garden and tending to her flowers. Her greatest joy was her family and she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Dietz of Washington, Iowa; daughter Kellie Hanson and husband Zach of Washington, Iowa; son Corey Dietz and fiancé Sheila Stauffer and their children Taylor and Jacob of Iowa City, Iowa; son Adam Dietz and special friend Abbie Woodburn of Washington, Iowa; parents Ed and Evelyn Gray of Washington, Iowa; brother Mike Gray and wife Teri of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother Lee Gray and wife Judy of Concord, North Carolina. She is also survived by her aunt Virgie Elliott of Bel Air, Maryland; mother-in-law Pat Herman and husband Louis of Sigourney, Iowa; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Clive and Carrie Gray, Howard and Blanche McMillan, and uncle Richard Gray.
