Obituary

David Robert Persinger, age 76, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the United Presbyterian Home following a five-year battle with cancer.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent for David's family at www.jonesfh.com

David was born on February 25, 1949, in Pipestone, Minnesota, the son of Holly Robert and Margery (Solsaa) Persinger. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1967 and later attended the Control Data Institute in Minneapolis for computer programming. After graduation, he relocated to Iowa. On October 2, 1971, David married Jane Marie Edwards in Iowa City, Iowa.

David and Jane made their home on her family's farm near Iowa City, where he spent 30 years farming together with Jane. They also owned numerous rental properties. In 2000, they moved their family to Washington, Iowa. David was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the age of 13. He was an active part of the congregation and served as an elder for many years. One of his greatest joys was sharing what he learned from the Bible with others. David also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and bird-watching – especially purple martins. He especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Persinger of Washington, Iowa; son, Matthew (Sheena) Persinger of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Anne (Luke) Leyden of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Amanda Runner of Ames, Iowa; and son, Ryan (Brooke) Persinger of North Liberty, Iowa; six grandchildren: Oaklynn Persinger, Memphis Persinger, Owen Leyden, Miles Leyden, Bowie Persinger, and Ziggy Persinger; sister, Karen (Jerry) Mattison of Worthington, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet (Richard) Schwake; brother, Jim Persinger; and a niece and two nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the special care that was given to David and Jane by Washington County Public Health, Hospice of Washington County, and the United Presbyterian Home nursing staff.
