David Alan "Dave" Greenlee, age 54, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Washington County Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Calling hours will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Dave was born November 19, 1963, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Joy (Coates) Greenlee. He grew up on the family farm where he was active in raising hogs and sheep as a 4-H member while attending school in Washington. As Dave grew older, he turned his interests towards athletics for the Washington Demons. He was an outstanding football player and one of the toughest wrestlers to take the mat for the Orange and Black, becoming the 2nd State Wrestling Champion in the school's history. He graduated from Washington High School in 1982.

After high school, Dave went on to be a Varsity Letter Winner at Buena vista College in Storm Lake and was a member of their rugby team. After college, David was still active in helping with the local youth wrestling program. He was united in marriage to Ardi Manning on June 7, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

David was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent a great deal of time camping with his wife, family and friends, pursing these interests on the Skunk River and many different lakes. He was one of those sharing individuals that helped everyone. Following in his father's footsteps, Dave was a very accomplished carpenter and woodworker. Whether it was working on their homes or helping them on their farm, Dave was always there to lend a hand.

One of the things that David looked most forward to was Christmas time so he could play Santa Claus for the Greiner children. This was always a thrill for him and the children. David always had a positive attitude towards anything that came before him and would not shrink away from any challenge.

He is survived by his wife, Ardi Greenlee of Washington, Iowa; mother, Joy Greenlee of Washington, Iowa; brother, Doug Greenlee and wife Joy of Eddyville, Iowa; brother, Shaun Greenlee of Washington, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; and grandparents: Charles and Pearl Greenlee, Marie Greenlee and Samuel Coates.
