Dale Smith, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Halcyon House in Washington.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the All Veterans Memorial Association of Washington, Hospice of Washington County and the Avalon House (Health Center) at Halcyon House. Dale Franklin Smith was born December 5, 1921 in Sublette, Missouri, the son of Clarence Eugene and Pearl Gladys (Crow) Smith. He attended high school in Queen City, Missouri. Dale was united in marriage to Armena Ruth Greiner on October 15, 1946 in Kirksville, Missouri.
Dale served honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the City of Washington, Washington Lumber and Washington Manufacturing.
He is survived by his son, Jim Smith and wife Linda of Keller, Texas; son, Don Smith of Minooka, Illinois; son, Steven Smith and wife Joyce of Washington, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Stoner and husband Norm of North Liberty, Iowa; and brother, Russell Gottman and wife Elaine of Batavia, Iowa.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1994; 4 sons: Larry, Gary, Michael and Dennis Smith; and one daughter, Dian Lankford.
