Clarence E. Witthoft, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Celebration of life services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Visitation will begin 12 noon Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Clarence was born July 15, 1919 in Washington County, Iowa the son of John F. and Minnie (Semler) Witthoft. He attended school in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School in 1938. On October 13, 1945 he was united in marriage to Edna Thatcher in Kalona, Iowa.
Clarence farmed all of his life in Washington County. He was a Veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army manufacturing air craft parts. Following his time in the service, he returned to Washington to begin farming. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Wellman, Iowa. He was a former member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in West Chester, Iowa. He was a ham radio operator, and he enjoyed traveling with his wife after their retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Lorane Wesolowski of Des Moines, Iowa; son Michael Witthoft of Wellman, Iowa; daughter, Marie MacDonald and husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Cindy Witthoft of Wellman, Iowa; daughter, Mary Turnipseed and husband Loren of South English, Iowa; four grandchildren, Angela, Claire, Robert and Luke; and three great-grandchildren. Clarence is also survived by his brother, Leonard Witthoft and wife Faye of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Eldon Witthoft and wife Sharon of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and sister, Ruth Maughan and husband John of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 2000.
