Clara L. Potratz, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Home following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Wollenberg and the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Visitation will begin Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Clara was born December 27, 1923, near Wayland, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mathilda (Hildebrand) Wenger. She attended country school in rural Washington County. Clara was united in marriage to William Potratz on March 2, 1946.
Clara was a life resident of Washington County having helped her husband with the family farm operation for over forty years. She later worked as a store clerk at Pamida and later owned and operated Clara's Greenhouse south of Washington. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she was a youth leader for several years. Clara received several Christian Education Awards for her work with the youth. She was involved with local Neighborhood Clubs where she enjoyed quilting and painting. Clara also enjoyed taking care of her flowers and kept busy delivering eggs for over twenty years.
She is survived by her husband, William Potratz of Washington, Iowa; son, Arthur Potratz and wife Ada of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Roger Potratz of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Craig Potratz and wife Michelle of Keokuk, Iowa; Amy Hummel and husband Justin of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Joshua Potratz of Washington, Iowa; and Daniel Potratz of Arlington, Virginia; three great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Anthony and William Potratz of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister, Lucy Wenger of Wayland, Iowa; and one nephew, Willis Kovar and wife Ginny of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Myrtle Harland and Ruth Kovar, and one brother, Roy Wenger.
