Christopher Scott Cheney, age 58, of Blue Ridge, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Abe Koehn officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established. Chris was born on March 15, 1968, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Larry Richard and Connie Sue (Bennett) Cheney. He graduated from Highland High School in 1986 and attended Indian Hills Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice.

Chris proudly served in the United States Air Force and later in the Navy Reserve as an active-duty Navy recruiter. He retired from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization supporting veterans and their families.

He is survived by his mother, Connie Cheney of Washington, Iowa; his brothers, Troy Cheney of Brighton, Iowa, and Shawn (Teri) Cheney of Sigourney, Iowa; his nieces and nephews, Terry (Sable) Wells, Trista Cheney, Scott Cheney, Chad Cheney, and Taylor Cheney; along with his great-nieces and great-nephews, Mavis and Sadie Wells, Slater and Sayler Cheney.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Larry Richard Cheney, and numerous aunts and uncles.
