Cherryl Lynn (Mapel) Richards, 81, of Washington IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Watson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Cherryl was born September 19, 1940, in Columbus City, IA, the daughter of Charles L. and Garna E. (Laney) Mapel. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1958. On April 7th, 1963, she was united in marriage to James Richards in Ainsworth, IA.

Cherryl was a teacher's aide at Stewart School in Washington, IA from 1973-1985. Cherryl also worked as a Jail Matron at the Washington County Sheriff's Department for 10 years from 1988-1998.

Cherryl is survived by her husband, Jim, of 59 years; two daughters Teri Kleese of Washington and Toni Embree of Washington; four grandchildren: Kassi Klinzman, Issak Kleese, Cody Embree, of Washington, Iowa, and Cole Embree of Cedar Falls, and two great grandchildren; Hannah Klinzman and Amari Griffin. She is also survived by two brothers Keith (Melva) Mapel of Arizona and Alan Mapel of Kansas City, Missouri as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cherryl is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Garna; brother Leon Mapel.
