Obituary

Caroleen G. Taylor, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Halcyon House following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Epworth Chapel of Halcyon House with Rev. Arthur Vanderhoff officiating. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Washington Public Library. Caroleen was born June 25, 1924 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Dr. Marvin Hendrix and Dr. Hattie Belle (Fenton) Sartor. She graduated from Washington High School and later attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On March 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dr. Rolland Taylor at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Caroleen was a life resident of Washington, Iowa. She taught special education students through Grant Wood, was the City Hostess through Welcome Wagon for the City of Washington. Caroleen also enjoyed doing polling and market research studies for individual and government surveys.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in United Methodist Women and served as a District Officer. Caroleen was active in PTA, T.T.T. Chapter DL, Rainbow Girls and Fortnightly Club.

She is survived by one son, James B. Taylor and wife Andrea of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Frances Baker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Rolland Taylor; one son Craig F. Taylor; one daughter, Mary Taylor McConnell; one brother, William Sartor; and three sisters, Helen Hawley, Ruth Davis and Lois Kirchner.
