Carol E. "Sassy" Giardino, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa. Prayer services will begin 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church where the family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Carol was born December 4, 1934 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Hubert and Marguerite (Whittaker) Walker. She attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Carol was united in marriage to Richard Giardino on November 20, 1954 in Washington D.C.
Following the sudden death of her husband, Carol went to work at the McCleery-Cumming Calendar Factory before she was elected the Clerk of District Court in Washington County. She was the Clerk of District Court for over twenty years. Carol was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Her family was her priority and Carol was the proud matriarch of almost 100 family members.
She is survived by her ten children, Joe Giardino and wife Maggie of Catlett, Virginia; Teri Roth and husband Mike of Washington, Iowa; Peg Ayan and husband Skip of Maui, Hawaii; Raeann Wyngarden and husband Don of Grimes, Iowa; Pat Folkema and husband Denny of Le Mars, Iowa; Jim Giardino and wife Kim of Ankeny, Iowa; Kristen Hilling and husband Paul of La Grange Park, Illinois; Paula Greiner and husband Eric "Amos" of Keota, Iowa; Rick Giardino and wife Amy of Kirkwood, Missouri; and Greg Giardino and wife Megan of Washington, Iowa; 29 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, in 1973; infant son, Paul; and brothers, Grant, Gale and Hugh Dean Walker.
