Carmen Black, age 65, of Washington, passed away Wednesday December 6, 2017, at home following a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. General calling hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and memorials, it was Carmen's wishes that you plant a flower in your loved one's memory.
Carmen was born November 10, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Omar and Dorothy (Baker) Black. She lived in Washington her entire life and graduated from Washington High School in 1971. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College, graduating with honors. During her teaching career, she received her Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. She was in the teaching profession for 33 years retiring in 2007. She was a devoted educator and friend. Carmen remained active and loved being outdoors, especially working in her flower beds.
Carmen is survived by one aunt, two uncles, five sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
