Obituary

Bryce Lord, age 91, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Walden Place in Iowa City, Iowa after a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa with Rev. Kitch Shatzer and Rev. Rebecca Carver officiating. Visitation begins 12:00 noon Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Interment with military honors conducted by Ainsworth American Legion Post 351 and Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Memorials have been established to Iowa City Hospice or the Ainsworth Community Church. Online condolences may be sent for Bryce's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com .

Bryce was born April 30, 1921 in Ainsworth, Iowa the son of George M. and Mary C. (Taylor) Lord. He graduated from Ainsworth High School, where he played basketball. On August 21, 1943 Bryce was united in marriage to Eleanor Hunter in Houston, Texas. They were married over 61 years when Eleanor died in 2005.

Bryce was a World War II veteran, serving two years in the Atlantic and two years in the Pacific. After the service, he owned Lord Insurance Agency and farmed in the Ainsworth community. He was on the Board of Directors of Washington County Mutual and served on the school board for local county schools. He was the Township Clerk for twenty years and was a Justice of the Peace. He served as the Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #365. He was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church.

His special interests were family gatherings, being on the farm, his dog, Rocky, Hawkeye sports, and flying, having received his private pilot's license. He could carry on a conversation with anyone he met.

Bryce instilled in his children the value of hard work and the importance of family and friends. He is survived by two sons: Charles Lord and wife Amy of Ainsworth, Iowa; Mike Lord and wife Betty of Riverside, Iowa; and one daughter, Mary Fox and husband Bob of Iowa City, Iowa. He had seven grandchildren: Joni Sojka and husband Mike, David Lord and wife Tara, Erika Lord-Castillo and husband Brett, Brian Fox, Ben Lord and wife Jenny, Becca Lord, and Steven Lord, as well as three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor; his parents; three brothers: Keith, Glen, and Bruce Lord; and a special friend, Heidi Kaufman.
