Brian Eugene Blodgett, age 60, of Washington, Iowa, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, following a courageous six-month battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, October 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the ISU Extension building at the Washington County fairgrounds, a light lunch will be served. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or the Washington County Hospital Foundation. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Brian was born March 20, 1964, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Harold and Marilyn (Jones) Blodgett. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1982. Brian was united in marriage to Michelle Walter on April 24, 1993.
Brian was a driver for Black Hawk Soil Company. He previously worked at Fansteel Mfg. and Archer's Appliance. He enjoyed golfing, mushroom hunting, early morning trips to the casino with his wife and watching sports on TV. Brian was a connoisseur of the grill and smoker; he would spend hours researching recipes and techniques perfecting his craft. He loved to host backyard gatherings where he would send you home with a full belly and a "to-go" box to enjoy later. Even the backyard critters are the best fed in all of Washington, as being hungry at the Blodgett household is not permitted.
Brian understood the importance of community, actively participating as a member of the Washington Kiwanis AM'ers. He dedicated many years to serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Brighton Fire Department, where his contributions fostered a sense of unity and safety among those around him. His commitment to helping others and building strong connections enriched the lives of many, leaving a lasting legacy in the community he cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle WalterBlodgett of Washington, Iowa; son, Aaron Blodgett of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Elyse and Talon Blodgett of Washington, Iowa; sister, Lori Orris and husband Kevin of Washington, Iowa; sister, Lonna Blodgett of Brighton, Iowa; brother, Jeff Blodgett and partner Michael of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Michael Hesseltine and wife Jacque of Brighton, Iowa; and nine nieces and nephews.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Ezra & Mary Jones and Melvin & Marjorie Bishop; and niece Emily Nash.
