Robert L. "Bob" Stout, age 88, of rural West Chester, Iowa, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the West Chester United Methodist Church with Rev. Marlene Janssen officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Saturday, March 28, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 Saturday afternoon. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Robert L. Stout was born November 28, 1926, on the family farm in Dutch Creek Township of Washington County, the son of Lafayette "Lafe" and Bertha (Brown) Stout. Following the death of his mother at an early age, Bob was raised by his father and stepmother, Ruth. Bob graduated from West Chester High School. On August 5, 1951, he was united in marriage to Doris Rouse in Albia, Iowa. Bob served honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Washington County where he farmed all of his life in the West Chester area. He served on the Washington County Board of Supervisors from 1996 until 2004. Bob was an active member of the West Chester United Methodist Church where he was involved with the music program. Bob's involvement in the community included his membership in the Keotones Barber Shop Chorus, the Washington Choral Society, Washington Community Theater, Washington County Farm Bureau where he was past president, Mid Prairie Community School Board of Directors, Iowa Cattleman's Association Board of Directors and the West Chester Savings Bank Board of Directors. Bob enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren's many activities.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Stout of Washington, IA; son, Kent Stout and wife Michelle of Westborough, MA; son, Rob Stout and wife Jean of Washington, IA; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Louise Carlson and husband Luke of Palmyra, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother; and four brothers: George, John, Lafe Jr., and Walter Stout; as well as four sisters; Mary Huseman, Martha Lamb, Florence Miller, and Ruth Ann Krebs.
