William "Bill" Young, age 57, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Visitation will begin noon Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Bill was born July 14, 1959 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Herbert William and Josephine (Dunbar) Young. He graduated from Washington High School.

Bill worked as a housekeeper at the University of Iowa for the last 12 years. He had previously worked for the railroad, was a truck driver and had worked for Crane Valves in Washington. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, fish fries, barbeques, and farmers markets. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his great-nephews.

He is survived by his siblings: Margaret Finley of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Dennis Young of North English, IA; Delrene Harris and husband Craig of Iowa City, IA; Desmond Young and wife Dee of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Jody Scott of Washington, IA; and Lance Young of Washington, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Almond Finley.
