Obituary

William Henry "Bill" Perdock, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Halcyon House in Washington after declining in health.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Washington Betterment Foundation. Bill was born March 23, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Peter and Bertha (Winga) Perdock. He graduated from Washington High School in 1939. Bill was united in marriage to Ellen Hays in Washington, Iowa. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Washington, Iowa. He started in the automotive industry in 1939 working for Willits Motors and Tucker Chevrolet. Bill later owned and operated Perdock Motors from 1955 until 2007. Bill was an active member of the Washington Community. He belonged to the Chamber of Commerce where he was an Ambassador, the Jaycee's, Washington Noon Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club where he received Rotarian of the Year in 1965, Masonic Lodge, K.A.A.B.A. Shrine and Winga's Coffee Club. Bill served on the Washington State Bank Board of Directors, Washington School Board, and was President of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association. Bill was honored to have received the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award in 1982. Following his service in World War II, Bill served in the Army Reserves where he retired as Lt. Colonel. Bill was a believer in Washington and was an unassuming philanthropist, often investing in people wanting to get started in the business world.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ellen Perdock of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Diane Holtaway and husband Bob of Bedminster, New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Betty Hugan and husband Bob of Knoxville, Iowa; and Betty's son Chad. Bill is also survived by two granddaughters and two great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ron in 1982; and brother, John Perdock.
