Bill S. Crandall, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington, following a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Bill was born December 21, 1928 in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Rex and Mary (Stewart) Crandall. He attended country school in Guthrie County until moving to Washington in 1942. Bill graduated from Washington High School in 1947. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served honorably in the United States Army from 1951-1953. During his service, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award. Bill was united in marriage to Beverly Wead on June 8, 1963 in Washington, Iowa.

Bill farmed northeast of Washington in Jackson Township until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, he helped Denny Witthoft at Witthoft Farm Supply. He was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, American Legion and the Washington County Pork Producers. Bill was also a member of the Washington Community YMCA where he enjoyed playing pool.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Crandall of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Annice Julian of Murray, Utah; sister, Beverly Young of Washington, Iowa; two nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Sam Young; brother-in-law; Gene Wead; and sister-in-law, Ardythe Goff.
