Billy Eugene Cnossen, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, January 13, 2012, at his residence following a brief illness.

Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Visitation will begin 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 16th at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Senior Dining at the Washington Community Y. Billy Eugene Cnossen was born December 29, 1921 in Washington, Iowa the son of Peter Owen and Loretta (Palmer) Cnossen. He attended school in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Payne on January 5, 1943. She preceded Bill in death in 1971. Bill later married Tresa DeFosse on March 17, 1972.

Bill lived all of his life in Washington, Iowa and worked as an electrician for Iowa Southern Utilities for over 35 years. He enjoyed traveling abroad and going on cruises. He loved spending time with his family. Bill enjoyed ballroom dancing and especially enjoyed going to the Washington Community Y for Senior Dining and participating various exercise programs.

He is survived by five children including daughter, Mary Jo Turnipseed and husband Jon of Apple Valley, California; son Jim Cnossen and wife Linda of Robins, Iowa; daughter Joan Barrios and husband Luis of Clinton, Iowa; daughter Jean Glandon and husband Terry of Washington, Iowa; daughter Sara Ross and husband Andy of Washington, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Alice Cnossen of Topeka, Kansas; half sister Peg Moore of Urbandale, Iowa; and half sister Connie Thomson of Des Moines, Iowa.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia in 1971, wife Tresa in 2005, one son Michael Cnossen in 1999, and his brother Owen Cnossen.
