Betty Jane Stewart, age 86, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the United Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Fr. Charles Fladung officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 Sunday evening. Betty was born July 13, 1927 in Washington County, Iowa the daughter of Charles Joseph and Rose Ida (Knotek) Sojka. She graduated from Washington High School, and later attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. Betty was united in marriage to Warren Eugene "Gene" Stewart on August 30, 1952 in Washington, Iowa.
Betty served as the Washington County Deputy Treasurer for approximately 40 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with family and friends. She and her husband, Gene, had enjoyed wintering in the south since 1985. Betty enjoyed fishing, golfing and she was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Sports fan.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene, of Ainsworth, Iowa; son Anthony R. "Tony" Stewart and wife Kaye of Washington, Iowa; daughter Jane E. Flander and husband Murray of Keota, Iowa; daughter Rhonda L. Wilson and husband Tim of Ainsworth, Iowa; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Anita Sojka of Kalona, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Lorene M. Cerny, LuElla J. Beenblossom, Dorothy R. Wollrab, and Marie K. Kleopfer; and three brothers: Vince J. Sojka, Dale K. Sojka, and Harold C. Sojka.
