Betty E. Allbaugh Sarton, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Home following a lengthy illness.

Betty was born December 2, 1925, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Frank and Mabel Belle (Woods) Custer. She attended school in Washington, Iowa. Betty was united in marriage to William Allbaugh in June of 1944. He preceded her in death in 1985. Betty was later married to Carl Sarton in 2000. Carl preceded Betty in death in 2007.
Betty has resided in Washington for the past four years. She had previously lived in Hemet, California; Prescott, Arizona; and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Betty worked as a store clerk and a waitress in Washington, Iowa. She enjoyed traveling and one of her greatest pleasures was volunteering at the University of Iowa Hospital.
She is survived by son, Bob Allbaugh and wife Carol of Banning, California; son, James Allbaugh and wife Connie of Ogden, Iowa; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Jones of Washington, Iowa; one brother, Richard Custer and wife Jayne of Wayland, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband William and husband Carl; and one brother, James Custer.
