Elizabeth "Betty" Jacobs, age 97, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Saturday, October 29, 2016.

Betty was born May 13, 1919 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Della (Bevan) Miehe. She was united in marriage to Dean Jacobs, Sr.

Betty began her higher education with a basketball scholarship from the University of Dubuque, and completed her Master's Degree in Home Economics at the University of Iowa. She was voted Mecca Queen at the University of Iowa, and at one time dated and went for long walks with Nile Kinnick while attending school there.

Betty went on to teach school at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and in Conroy and Marengo, Iowa. For the past 20 years, she continued to devote herself to what she called her "blessing business" which consisted of prayer and world meditation. Her favorite sayings included, "bless each and every one, bless the hell out of it, thanksgiving is the highway to Heaven, keep your tank full of thankful, and regardless of external circumstances, Happy Day!"

She is survived by four sons: Dean Jacobs of Iowa City, IA, Ray Jacobs and wife Joan of Scottsdale AZ, Eric Jacobs and wife Becky of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Paul Jacobs and wife Doris of Marengo, IA; six grandchildren; and one brother, Ray Miehe of Charleston, SC.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
