Betty Hamil, age 92, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Crawfordsville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington with services conducted by Larry Fletcher. General calling hours will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday. Private family interment will take place at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the M.L. McCreedy Home and the First Responders of Crawfordsville. Louise Elizabeth "Betty" Sinclair was born to Max and Addie (Magdefrau) Sinclair on April 11, 1919 in Wayland, Iowa. Betty graduated from Wayland schools in 1936. In 1937 she entered nurses training at Burlington Hospitals and receive her license. She spent most of her career working at Washington County Hospital and the Long Term Care Unit in Washington.
Betty married John Hamil of Crawfordsville on January 9, 1941 in Queens City, Missouri. This was a double ceremony as Towyn and Pauline Davies, lifelong friends of the Hamils, were united in marriage at the same time. Betty and John lived on the Hamil family farm until retiring and moving to Crawfordsville in 1972.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Wayland, Iowa and later the United Church of Crawfordsville. She was member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years and belonged to the Social Hour Club in Crawfordsville. She was an avid fan of Iowa Sports as well as the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Throughout the years, she and John took several bus trips to follow their favorite teams.
Betty is survived by two children: son, John Hamil and wife Pat of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Shari Frantz and husband Dave (full time RV'ers) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January of 2011; and one sister, Maxine Jahnke.
The family would like to thank Dr. Flannery, Dr. Nacos and staff, and the McCreedy Home staff for the care, love and support given to Betty.
