Obituary

Betty Jeanne Eden, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at her residence.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. Calling hours will begin at noon on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Interment will be held at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter J. Betty was born September 23, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Wilber E. and Florence E. (Womer) Oberman. She graduated from Iowa City High School and attended Iowa State University. Betty was united in marriage to Wendell D. Eden on August 1, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Iowa City, Iowa.

Betty and Wendell moved to Washington on September 1, 1959 where they owned and operated the Eden Funeral Home and Eden Insurance. Betty was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church, Washington Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and past president of P.E.O. Chapter J. She served on the Board of Trustees at the Sarah Porter Bethwick Home and as chairman of the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell Eden of Washington, IA; children: Cynthia Spurgeon and husband Terry of Batavia, IL; Kathryn Baum and husband Ethan of Mitchellville, IA; Richard Eden of North Smithfield, RI; and Jennifer Patrick and husband Michael of Bloomingdale, IL; grandchildren: Kathryn (Kohl) Meyer, Julian Eden, Evan Baum, Mitchell Baum, Delaney Patrick; Mackenzie Patrick; great grandson, Brooks Meyer; and sisters-in-law: Beverly Felt of Desert Hot Springs, CA and Joyce Oberman of Iowa City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Elizabeth Spurgeon; brother, Richard Oberman; and brothers-in-law: Dr. Donald Eden and Donald Felt.
