Bessie Nadine "Bess" Llewellyn, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Halcyon House in Washington.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Shriners Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be sent for Bess's family at www.jonesfh.com
Bess was born August 31, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolph and Margaret (Burham) Schmidt. She attended school in Washington graduating from high school in 1952. Bess was united in marriage to Leonard Allen Llewellyn on November 21, 1954, in Washington, Iowa.
Bess worked at Brown's Shoe Fit while she was in high school and continued her career at Brown's for several years and later worked for the Washington Evening Journal. Bess and Leonard owned and operated the Print Shop from 1987 until 1992.
She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Bess was a member of Fortnightly, Y Women and the Sunshine Girls.
Bess is survived by her daughter, Peggy Neff and husband Ken of Columbia, Missouri; and son, David Llewellyn and wife Renee of Vandalia, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard in 2015; brother, Harold Schmidt and sister, Betty Tobin.
