Anna Lee (Sigler) Gonzalez, age 79, of Washington, Iowa died Friday, April 12, 2013 at the United Presbyterian Home following complications with Parkinson's Disease and dementia.
Anna's Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Keota, Iowa. Father Troy Richmond will officiate. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., commencing with a rosary service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Keota, Iowa. The family invites friends and guests to wear Anna's favorite color, purple, to the Celebration of Life service.
Anna was born November 23, 1933 in Keota, Iowa the daughter of George Verle "Sparky" and Agnes Cecelia (Snyder) Sigler. She graduated from Keota High School in 1951. Anna was united in marriage to Deacon Robert John Gonzalez on May 30, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota, Iowa.
Anna was previously a resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Phoenix, Arizona, and Iowa City, Iowa. She had been a resident of Washington since 2000. Anna was a beloved wife, mother, and homemaker.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa and was previously a member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church Ladies Sodality Group in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a P.T.A. member for all six of her children, as well as a Cub Scout Leader. She volunteered her time to various activities. She enjoyed puzzles, and she was devoted to handwriting cards and letters to her immediate and extended family, as well as many of her friends. She dedicated time to pray the rosary daily.
Anna truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her brothers and sisters, who nicknamed her "Queen Annie." She loved visiting with her family at the annual family reunion. Anna was noted for her distinctive and contagious laugh, the sound of which could start a room laughing with her.
Anna is survived by her six children: son Michael Gonzalez of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter Mary Gonzales and husband Jesse of Glendale, Arizona; daughter Monica Gonzalez and significant other Curtis Hightower of League City, Texas; son Marlon Gonzalez of Arizona City, Arizona; daughter Michelle Russell and husband Randy of Birmingham, Iowa; and son Matthew Gonzalez and wife Maria Lucia of Davie, Florida; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson expected in August; four brothers: Henry (Bev) Sigler, William (Pat) Sigler, James (Bev) Sigler, and Carl (Judy) Sigler; four sisters: Mary (Barry) Martin, Bonita (Steve) Amend, Kathleen Ewald, and Wanda (Jon) Ballou; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Deacon Robert in 1999; and siblings, brothers: Robert, Harold, Darold, Donald, Thomas, and Raymond; sisters: Cynthia Brown, Carol McIntyre, Joyce Schmidt, and Georgia Will.
