Alta Eunice Coon, age 101, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Halcyon House in Washington following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday February 20, 2011 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Alta was born May 22, 1909 in Carstairs, Alberta Canada the daughter of Otho M. and Alta Eunice (Malin) Himmelreich. Following her mother's death Alta was raised by her aunt and uncle, Oleta and Murray Conger. She attended schools in Washington, graduating in 1928. On February 16, 1931, Alta was united in marriage to Ira Everette Coon in Waterloo, Iowa. She taught school for two years at Tyrone Country School. Following her marriage Alta was a homemaker and helped her husband with their farming operation. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and loved flowers. She had a "green thumb."

Alta is survived by one son, Murray Coon and wife Pat of Washington, Iowa; one daughter, Phyllis Crile and husband Marvin of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Eula Mae Coon.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003, one grandson and one brother, Lloyd E. Conger.
