Allan A. Dennis, age 80, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Allan was born July 15, 1936 in Gladwin, Iowa, the son of Asher and Pearl (Manley) Dennis. He attended Frog Pond Country School in Louisa County. Allan was united in marriage to Marilyn E. Goodwin on April 30, 1954 in Washington, Iowa.
Allan lived most of his life in Washington. He worked at the Wolf Floral Greenhouse in Washington for 18 years. He later worked at River Products in Iowa City until his retirement in 2000. Allan was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family and was a foster parent for over 30 years.
Surviving are his children: Joey Dennis and wife Charlotte of Ainsworth, IA; Portia Temeyer and husband Irvin of Iowa City, IA; Jeff Goodwin and wife Amy of Wayland, IA; Marilyn J. Dennis of Riverside, IA; Patience Hudson and husband Kole of Wayland, IA; Jessica Dennis and special friend Josh Lang of Ainsworth, IA; and Justin Dennis of Washington, IA; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Dennis and wife Dolores of Muscatine, IA; brother, Gerald Dennis and wife Debbie of Princeton, IL; sister, Maxine Little of Tipton, IA; sister, Mary Newton of Solon, IA; brother, Thomas Dennis and wife Pat of Ft. Madison, IA; twin siblings: Donald Dennis of Muscatine, IA and Doris Lindsey and husband Bob of Beaver, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn E. Dennis in 2013; daughter, Marsha; 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson; and one sister, Judy Goodwin.
