Obituary

Alice Bowles Rademaker, age 102, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.

Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Alice was born November 9, 1914, in Emden, Illinois, the daughter of John Raymond and Jennie (Bushman) Bowles. After graduating from Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1933, she attended Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois, for two years. Alice was an elementary school teacher in Emden, Illinois, for eight years. She was united in marriage to Charles Rademaker on February 26, 1944, at the Emden Methodist Church in Emden, Illinois. Following her marriage, Alice was a homemaker and taught piano and organ lessons in her residence for many years.

Alice has lived all of her married life in the Washington Community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Fortnightly Club and the Washington Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R)

Alice's special pleasures and interests included music and the theater. She served as organist of the Emden Methodist Church and later the Ainsworth Methodist Church in Ainsworth, Iowa. Alice and her husband enjoyed taking bus tours around the country and made two trips to Europe. She enjoyed visiting Germany and the surrounding countries. Alice said, "in life, I have had good opportunities, a wonderful husband and I am very grateful and thankful for it all. I had no idea I would reach almost 103 years of age!"


She is survived by one daughter, Ann Churchill and husband Gary; granddaughter, Heather Weaverling and husband Ryan and their children Tristan and Sydney; and granddaughter, Lindsey Westemeier and her son Tyton all of Ankeny, Iowa.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, her step-father, two step-brothers, and one step-sister.
