Alice Mae Greiner, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the M.L. McCreedy Home following a short illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church in Tobin Hall with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Prayer services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Alice was born September 29, 1919 in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Joseph and Albie Mary (Liska) Lukavsky. She attended school in Riverside and Washington. Alice was united in marriage to Carl Michiel Greiner on September 4, 1940 in Washington, Iowa.
In March of 1941, Alice and Carl moved to a farm south of Ainsworth, Iowa, where they farmed until 1961. In 1961 they moved to Washington, Iowa, and spent their summers in Minnesota where they owned and operated the Red Wing Lodge on Leech Lake near Walker, Minnesota. Alice also worked as a Dietary Aide at Halcyon House for twenty-two years until her retirement in 2000.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She loved being around people and caring for her family and friends in any way she could. Alice was known for her baking, particularly her sweet rolls. She will be remembered for her selfless and generous spirit, and for always putting others first.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Howard of Washington, Iowa; son, Ronald Carl Greiner and wife Debbie of Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter, C. Jean Irons and husband Gary of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Sharon Kay Edmund and husband Jerry of Washington, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband four brother, Edwin, Clarence, Lawrence and Ivan Lukavsky; and one sister, Mary Friese.
