Alice Johanna (Hayes) Franklin, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Washington County Hospital in Washington following a brief illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday November 1, 2010 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Alice was born on February 7, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Paul Richard and Elizabeth Catherine (Clausen) Hayes. At the age of two, her family moved to Nebraska and later moved to Iowa. She graduated from Washington High School. Alice was united in marriage to Donald G. Franklin on January 20, 1936 in Washington, Iowa. Following their marriage, Don and Alice moved to California where they lived for 12 years before returning to Iowa. She worked as an operator at the Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa for 30 years until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed working in her yard, animals, sewing and watching people.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jo Richardson of Washington; three grandsons, Bruce Timmins and wife Julie; Dean Timmins; and Don Timmins and wife Kimberly all of Washington; five great grandchildren including Timothy Alan Timmins and wife Betsy of Washington, Iowa; J.C. Timmins of Marshalltown, Iowa; Tara Jo Timmins of Washington, Iowa; Jessica Lea Timmins of Washington, Iowa; Ashley Nicole Timmins of Washington, Iowa; and one great great grandson Caden Lee Timmins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1978.
