Agnes Miksch, age 99, of Washington died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home following a decline in health the past six weeks.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Washington County Hospice and the United Methodist Church. Agnes was born May 11, 1910 near Cincinnati, Iowa the daughter of Daniel and Margaret (Milner) Richardson. She graduated from Cincinnati High School and received her Normal Training certificate. Agnes taught rural school in Appanoose County until 1937 when she moved to Washington County and taught school at Wellston, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Miksch on May 21, 1938 in Cincinnati, Iowa.
Agnes and Robert began farming in the Wellston area before moving to Ainsworth, Iowa in the early 1940's and farmed there until 1953 when they moved to a farm just west of Grace Hill and continued farming. In 1972, they moved to Washington
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Fortnightly - American Home Chapter. Agnes crocheted many afghans, enjoyed sewing, and was a 4-H leader for many years. She loved cooking for and spending time with her family. On her 90th birthday she received her first computer and enjoyed keeping in contact with her family and current events via the computer.
She is survived by four children including son Edward Miksch and wife Judy of Scottsdale, Arizona; son James Miksch and wife Lynda of Washington, Iowa; daughter Gretchen Denton and husband Douglas of Rochester Hills, Michigan; and son George Miksch and wife Pat of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Agnes is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1982, three brothers William, James, and John Richardson and one sister Edith Richardson.
