Adeline Joyce Gingerich, age 80, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with services conducted by Pastor Rick Hughes. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday evening. Adeline was born May 1, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Ines (Chalupa) Schneider. She graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Adeline was united in marriage to Alfred "Ole" Gingerich on January 18, 1956 in Washington, Iowa.
Adeline worked at the button factory in Washington and for Washington Laundry for eleven years. She was a member of the YMCA Volleyball team and was a volleyball champion up until her 50's. Although she did not have children of her own, Adeline spent much of her time caring for the children of relatives where she created a fun and loving atmosphere. She enjoyed sewing, planting roses and was a great believer in nature. Adeline will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Adeline is survived by her husband, Alfred "Ole" Gingerich of Washington, Iowa; sister, Lucille Wiseman of Maryland; sisters-in-law, Betty Lowry and husband Vernie of Washington, IA, Carol Jones of Washington, IA, Janet Cronbaugh of Washington, IA, and Carol Gingerich of Washington, IA; nieces, Kathy Keeler and husband Jim of Arizona, Konnie Jones of Washington, IA, Karoline Kubik of Washington, IA, Sandra Kay Zeman and husband Larry of Virginia and Barb Wolf of Cedar Rapids, IA; and nephews, Steve Cronbaugh, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, IA and Loren Gingerich of Washington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Jim Gingerich.
