Stevan Kirk “Steve” Keating, age 73, of Coralville, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 14, 2022, following a sudden illness. Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Washington Public Library or the Washington Golf and Country Club for tree planting. Online condolences may be sent for Steve’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Steve was born May 30, 1948, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Mildred (Helmick) McBride. At a young age, Steve was adopted by Claire Keating and was raised by Claire and Millie. He graduated from Washington High School in 1966 and received his Degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa. Steve served honorably in the United States Army from 1970 until 1973 where he was stationed in Korea. Steve was united in marriage to Lauren Modrak on July 26, 1980, in Waterford, Wisconsin. Steve lived all of his life in Washington, Iowa, prior to moving to Coralville following his retirement. He was the manager of Keating Steel Fabricators, a company started by his father. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Washington Golf and Country Club where he won the club championship one year. Steve loved to grill and was a master griller. He enjoyed traveling, reading and was an avid Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye Sports fan. He is survived by his wife, Lauren Keating of Coralville, Iowa; daughter, Molly Rach and husband Brian of Vinton, Iowa; sister, Cheryl Nugent and husband Jay of Waukee, Iowa; brother, Kent Keating and wife Darice of Swisher, Iowa; brother, Scott Keating and partner Marcy Davis of Louisville, Colorado; sister, Jenny Keating of West Des Moines, Iowa; uncle, Harry McBride of Bullhead City, Arizona; aunt, Audrey Stark of Washington, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Claire and Millie Keating.
