Patricia Lucile “Patty Lu” Johnson died on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after an eight year battle with cancer. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Warhover officiating. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the United Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Project. Online condolences may be sent for Pat’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Born to Ernest and Lucile (Hartman) Meyer on April 1, 1938, she was always proud to say she was born in the first county hospital in the United States, Washington County Hospital. She went to school at Cedar Country School South of Washington and then to Cotter High School after moving to a farm South of Cotter with her family and graduated from Cotter High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart Robert C. Johnson, on September 8, 1957. Pat was the only girl in the class in her graduating class of four. Bob was one of the three males in her class and won her heart. This union lasted for 60 years and they celebrated that milestone only 12 days before her death. Pat sold real estate in Washington for 32 years, was owner of Hometown Realty and served as Secretary on the English River Board of Realtors. She was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained Elder and Deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women. Pat was a 4H leader for 9 years and on the Washington County Country School Committee. She was an active member of the Walnut Women Club, belonged to Martha Washington Questers and Adventures in Living Fortnightly. In her earlier years she helped organize the Washington County Porkettes and along with her husband helped promote pork across the United States. She was a big Hawkeye Fan and loved watching Hawkeye football and basketball. Pat also loved helping her husband and son on the family farm, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Pat left the following note on her desk that she intended to publish but didn’t get to it “A BIG Thank You to everyone who attended our Fantastic 60th Anniversary Party and 80th Birthday Party at Marr Park on August 27th. It was a great Day!!” That party was the highlight of her year and she so enjoyed seeing or hearing from so many friends, school mates and relatives. Pat is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson of Washington, IA; daughter, Deb Falk of Kernersville, NC; son, Rob Johnson and wife Julie of Washington, IA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Shelby (Lee) Morrison of North Liberty, IA; Erna Reid of Cotter, IA; and Ron (Becky) Meyer of Solon, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
