August 9, 1941 - June 11, 2019

Justin McCarthy, age 77, of Pueblo, Colorado, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 11th, in Pueblo. Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the St. James Catholic Church. Calling hours will begin noon Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Justin's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Justin was born August 9, 1941 in Washington, Iowa, the eldest child of Bernard H. and Dorothy O. (Wilson) McCarthy. He graduated from Washington High School in 1961. He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps on June 2, 1961 and served until April 17, 1967. He served as a Lieutenant Corporal E-3 with the infantry; Justin was on board the first ship to land at DaNang Airbase in Vietnam – his cavalry unit conducted search and destroy missions to stop the shelling of the airbase by the Viet Cong in 1964 and 1965. Justin also served in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Moorman’s Manufacturing Feed Company (his father’s company) in Quincy, Illinois from November 1965 to August 1984. He continued working odd jobs until August 1985 when he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. He lived and worked in Colorado Springs until December 2011, when he moved to Pueblo West CO where he continued to reside until his passing at age 77. He was married to Linda Van Winkle from June 1966 until spring of 1975. Justin was the father of two sons, Robert Justin and Ronald Joseph and one daughter, Justina Marie. The live in Quincy. Ronald has three children - two daughters Linda (Lindie) Elizabeth (born on Justin’s birthday) and Hero Katerra and son Thomas Joseph. Lindie and husband Sam Alsdorf have two children Boston and Tyler. Tom has a son Wyatt Rensch. Justin married wife Donna Lynne Pumphrey on August 7, 1999. He continued to lead a very active life. He survived colon cancer in 2007 and fistula in 2008; the good news - he was cancer free for 12 years. Justin enjoyed his relationship with his eleven siblings. He is survived by his brother Michael McCarthy and wife Jean of Des Moines; brother A. Joseph McCarthy and wife Chi of Houston; sister Monica McCarthy of Des Moines; brother Marty McCarthy and wife Judy of Washington; brother James McCarthy and wife Ann of West Des Moines; brother Marcus McCarthy and wife Mindy of Katy, Texas; sister Mary McCarthy of Phoenix; brother John McCarthy of Lake Elsinore, California; sister Michelle Brown and husband Blake of Newport Beach, California; 16 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews. Justin was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jeanette. His brother Army Vet Jeffrey Delmar died June 20, 2019 – only eight days following Justin’s death. We all feel Justin’s spirit has “made a beeline to heaven” – he will be greatly missed by all.
