January 12, 1924 - November 22, 2019

Helen L. Dallmeyer’s journey of life ended on Friday, November 22, 2019, which would have been her late husbands 95th birthday. She passed away at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, after falling. Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church or the Washington Tree Committee for tree planting at Sunset Park. Helen was born January 12, 1924, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Emmett P. and Nina G. (Godwin) Hayes. She graduated from Washington High School and Washington Junior College. She furthered her secretarial office education at the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa. In August of 1942, she met Carl and they were married on November 17, 1944 in Pacific Grove, California. While Carl was stationed at Fort Ord, they lived in the beautiful Monterey/Carmel area until he was discharged in March of 1946. While there, Helen worked in the Fort Ord Finance office. They returned to Washington and Carl started his career at McCleery-Cumming Co. where Helen retired as an executive secretary. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Lending Hands Board of Directors and served on the YWCA Board. She is a member of Chapter J, P.E.O. and she held many offices. She was a former member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was Treasurer of CWF and was a church board member. Helen enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, walking, reading, crossword puzzles, writing letters, and calling on shut-ins and those in health centers. She loved her church and her family. Helen is survived by her son, Kent (Jane) Dallmeyer of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Dae (Russ) Underwood of Johnston, Iowa; three grandchildren: Kurt (Jan) Dallmeyer of Wellman, Iowa; Karin Wellington of Boone, Iowa; Brian (Liz) Underwood of Orlando, Florida; eight great-grandchildren: Cole, Kyle, and Kellie Dallmeyer; Warren, Grant and Flora Wellington; and Lydia and Elise Underwood. She is also survived by several nieces. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Dallmeyer in 2018; brother, Everett Hayes; and sister, Mabel Schooley.
