Mary E. Jarvis

Mary E. Jarvis, 83, of Washington, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, June 26, 2022, following a brief illness. Mary was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on May 29, 1939, the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Hendricks) Schillerstrom. Mary graduated Fairfield High School in 1957. She was joined in marriage to Oren W. Jarvis on May 31, 1959, at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, Iowa. The Washington County Hospital was Mary’s employer for 30 years. She worked in Nursing Administration, retiring in 1998. Mary was a member of the Grace Community Church, Washington, Iowa, and the Gideon Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Oren Jarvis, Washington, Iowa; daughter Rev. Monica Jarvis, Springfield, Missouri; son Barry Jarvis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother-in-law Floyd West, Fairfield, Iowa; and sister-in-law Darlene Schillerstrom, Burlington, Iowa; half sisters Jean Meiners of Ottumwa, Iowa; Jolene Elmore of Texas; and Joni Rollinger of Decorah, Iowa, three sisters-in-law Connie Jarvis, Marianne Hanshaw and Beverly Krotz of Washington, Iowa. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bob Schillerstrom of Brighton, Iowa; brother Roy Schillerstrom of Washington, Iowa; sister Elizabeth West of Fairfield, Iowa; in-laws Harold and Verna Jarvis; three brothers-in-law Jim Hanshaw, Yale Jarvis and Duane Krotz of Washington, Iowa; and nephew Dan Krotz. Following Mary’s wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no visitation. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, Washington, Iowa, with Pastor Darren Brown officiating. Family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa. Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
