Lorene M. Cox, age 85, of Washington, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at her residence.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Thursday March 11, 2010 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Lorene was born November 3, 1924 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Walter A. and Ruth C. (Carlson) Anderson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1943 and attended Business College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. On July 1, 1945, Lorene was united in marriage to R. Dean Cox in Washington, Iowa.

Lorene worked as a stenographer for Washington County Health Unit and later worked at Brakes Fabric and Seamstress Company. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, OES, Y Women, the Washington Golf and Country Club and Chapter EI of TTT. She was a former member of Eastern Star. Lorene served on the Care Review Committee at the Washington Care Center for ten years. Lorene was a master seamstress who especially enjoyed creating handiwork for her family. She treasured the friendships she developed over the years as she altered clothing for many, many people throughout Washington County. Lorene also loved to gather with her friends to play cards.

She is survived by two son, Douglas Cox and wife Julianna of Garner, Iowa; Terry Cox and wife Terri of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1999; her brother, Bob Anderson; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Anderson.
