Martha Ida Witthoft, age 91, of Washington, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Halcyon House in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Meader officiating. Visitation will begin 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Central Park Community Center. Martha was born September 13, 1923, in Rural Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Martha (Koehler) Zieglowsky. She attended school in Washington County. Martha was united in marriage to Ralph C. Witthoft on June 1, 1947 in Washington, Iowa.
Martha was a life long resident of the Washington Community. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Bethel Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained Elder. Martha taught Sunday school at the St. Paul United Church of Christ and belonged to the Friendship Club, L.B.C. Club and the United Church of Christ Women's Guild. She enjoyed bowling, doing crafts and needlework, working with her flowers and gardening. Martha was a great cook and especially enjoyed the time spent with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Gary Witthoft and wife Peggy of Marion, Iowa; daughter, Linda Cnossen and husband Jim of Robins, Iowa; son, Dennis Witthoft and wife Sandy of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Sharon Weber and husband Butch of Waukee, Iowa; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Zieglowsky and wife Donna of Brockton, Massachusetts; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January of 2014; one brother, Carl Zieglowsky and his wife Ruth; and two sisters, Marie Graber and husband Elmer; and Julia Freyenberger and husband Bill.
