Marion I. Singer, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Halcyon Home in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa. Marion was born October 4, 1922, in Richland, Iowa, the daughter of John Elwood and Amelia Catherine (Doser) Bray. She graduated from Richland High School. Marion was united in marriage to Stanley Ward Singer on October 6, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Stan and Marion lived in Richland from 1940 until 1961 at which time they moved to Washington, Iowa. Marion worked as an administrator for the Milwaukee Railroad until her retirement in 1979.
Marion was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington, Chapter MX of the PEO Sisterhood and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also belonged to the Sunshine Girls Coffee Group, Fortnightly and Questers. She was an officer for the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Blair House Director.
Marion adored her home in Washington. She was a beautiful decorator and crafter and she loved to entertain. Known for her delicious pies, Marion would have a pie party at her home every year. She was a remarkable seamstress and enjoyed collecting railroading memorabilia. Marion was notorious for being dressed to perfection, always looking her best. Her greatest love was visits from her family, particularly her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Bensing and husband Jerome of Franktown, CO; daughter-in-law, Diane Singer of College Station, TX; grandson, Ryan Bensing and wife Megan of Centennial, CO; granddaughter, Courtney Smith and husband Jeff of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson, Jay Singer of College Station, TX; granddaughter, Lori Norton and husband Keith of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren: Kayla and Karly Norton of Dallas, TX and Declan and Alexis Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Cecil Krause of La Mirada, CA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Ward Singer; son, John Gregory Singer; brother, Dallas Bray; and sisters, Evelyn Kavanagh and June Huffman.
